A 40 cm height difference is a lot; there’s no denying that!
But is a 40 cm difference in height between couples actually too much?
Many of us these days worry about how we look next to our partner (or potential partner). But are you needlessly worrying about what other people think?
Or, do we have a genuine concern that needs addressing?

- 25 centimeters difference in height
- 30 centimeters difference in height
- 50 centimeters difference in height
Is a 40 cm height difference between couples too much?
Although a 40 cm height difference between couples is, quite frankly, absolutely huge and more than double the average height difference, I don’t necessarily think that it’s outright excessive.
Impractical? In some cases, for sure.
But since there’s nothing inherently wrong with being short or tall, I don’t see why people of greatly differing heights can’t come together and form a happy union.
Sure, a 40 cm height difference couple might feel self-conscious that other people are looking at them and gasping at their 40 cm height gap. But who cares?
People aren’t staring because they hate you; they’re looking because it’s a fairly rare occurrence in the grand scheme of things.
Ultimately, if a couple is happy, I don’t believe for one moment that a 40 centimeter height difference is too much.
Still, if you do want to lessen the height gap, then there are a couple of ways that you can do that.
Do other people really have a 40 cm height difference?
Believe it or not, a 40 cm height difference is actually pretty common.
Okay, not between couples, but between a parent and their child; for example, a 40 centimeter difference in height is actually pretty normal between a father and son.
Now, I’m not suggesting that two adults with a 40 cm height difference will look like parent and child because, obviously, adults look very different from children.
Still, these comparisons just go to show that any given height difference is more common between certain people.
An example of a 40 centimeter height difference that would be extremely uncommon is a male-male height difference. A guy would have to be really tall to tower 40 cm above his male friends, but I’m sure that this is the case for some basketball players.
How can you reduce a 40 cm difference in height?
Wearing high heels is the only way that you can significantly reduce a 40 cm height difference.
Obviously, even with the addition of high heels into your daily outfit, there’s still going to be a big height difference between you and your partner.
That said, you should take comfort in the fact that there are couples who have an even bigger height difference than 40 centimeters, which is often due to the guy being really tall.
Of course, when a 40 cm height difference couple is sat down, the height gap will be much less obvious but nonetheless visible. Now let’s wrap things up.
The verdict
As time goes on, a couple who have a 40 cm height difference will likely become less self-conscious about their height gap and realize that there are far more important things in life.
Sure, 40 centimeters is a lot—and it might feel impractical sometimes—but it’s by no means a deal breaker, as numerous couples have proved.
While you can change your footwear in order to lessen the height gap, I wouldn’t wear uncomfortable shoes simply to reduce the natural (and perfectly acceptable) height difference.
