What does an 8 inch height difference look like?

What does an 8 inch height difference look like?

As you look around the room at this very moment, there are probably an array of objects that have an 8 inch height difference. But you don’t don’t notice the height gap, do you?

Why is that?

Simple. You’re not as concerned about an 8 inch height difference between two objects (or animals) as you are about an 8 inch difference in height between two humans.

As you’ll soon learn, however, an eight inch height difference between two people, whether they be a couple or just friends, is nothing to be overly concerned about.

An 8 inch height difference between a male-female couple is a big height difference and is very much noticeable in the sense that one of the partners is much taller than the other.

Despite the fact that women are around 5 inches shorter than men on average, I still don’t think that an 8 inch difference in height is a large enough height gap to be a cause for concern.

In fact, some people may actually prefer a large eight inch height difference because it slightly exaggerates the male-taller and female-shorter norm, which could be seen as complementary.

There are also a good number of couples who have an 8 inch height difference between themselves and their partner, so by no means will you stand out dramatically if you’re eight inches shorter or taller than your significant other.

Still, if you really don’t like the eight inch height difference, you can wear shoes with a thicker or thinner heel (and get your partner to do the same) to lessen the height gap.

Obviously, unless someone is wearing high heels, a simple footwear change won’t reduce an 8 inch difference in height to any significant extent.

The answer to this question mainly depends on who the 8 inch height difference exists between. Let me explain.

As we’ve established, an eight inch height difference between a man and a woman, while obviously a big height gap, is still perfectly normal, as are a range of other height differences.

On the other hand, an 8 inch height difference between two women, for example, is less common and is more likely to catch our attention.

The simple reason for this is that women are expected to be a fairly similar height to one another, whereas men are expected to be much taller than women.

So, if two women (or two men) have an eight inch difference in height between them, it’s because one of them is either very tall or very short.

To say it another way, if you walk around a city, then your chance of seeing a male-female couple with an 8 inch height difference is much more likely than seeing two women walking next to each other who have an 8 inch difference in height.

No specific height difference is inherently good or bad, although we may label it as such.

Granted, when you contextualize an 8 inch height difference, you can say that it’s more or less preferable.

For example, many men will probably like being 8 inches taller than their partner, as it makes them feel more powerful, but they may not enjoy being 8 inches shorter than their male friend.

So, although an eight inch height difference may be more preferable in certain situations, it’s definitely not the be-all and end-all, either.

In conclusion

You can’t please everyone. Some people wish that they had an 8 inch height difference between themselves and their partner, whereas others would prefer a smaller difference in stature.

I think we’re so used to being able to quickly change other aspects of our appearance that it can be frustrating to have an 8 inch height gap that we can’t control.

Still, when it’s all said and done, an 8 inch difference in height definitely isn’t something that you should get worked up about because it really isn’t big enough to be a major cause for concern.
