Is a 4 cm height difference between people noticeable?

A 4 cm height difference sounds like quite a lot, and, in some sense, it is. After all, virtually anyone will be able to notice a 4 cm difference in height between two people.

However, a 4 centimeter height difference isn’t big to the point where closing the height gap, so to speak, becomes impossible. More on that later.

A 4 cm height difference is definitely noticeable between two people because, in terms of human height, 4 centimeters is not a tiny measurement.

Think about it for a second. If you grew by 4 centimeters, then I’m pretty sure that people would notice and say things like, “whoah, you got taller!”.

By the same logic, then, if you’re 4 cm shorter or taller than someone else, the height difference will also be noticeable.

The four centimeter height difference will be less noticeable if the couple, for example, is walking down the street at speed and more noticeable if they’re just standing side by side.

Of course, most people don’t go around trying to calculate or even just observe the height difference between two people. Therefore, even though you might think that a 4 centimeter height difference is a big deal, it really isn’t a focal point for other people.

In general, I’d say that 4 centimeters is a medium height difference, by which I mean it’s noticeable and yet doesn’t exactly jump out at you either.

But check this out: A 4 cm difference in height is more or less noticeable depending on who the height gap exists between.

As an example, a 4 cm height difference between couples is more noticeable than a 4 cm height difference between two male friends. Why?

Because men are generally more than 4 cm taller than women, whereas a 4 centimeter height difference between two guys is much more common. As such, a couple with a 4 centimeter height difference will have a smaller height gap than usual.

If the man was 4 cm shorter than his female partner, however, then that height difference would be particularly striking.

Obviously, some women are naturally tall, and there’s nothing wrong with that at all.

The point is that some pairings, if that’s the right word, are more likely to have a 4 cm difference in height than others.

Is it possible to reduce a 4 centimeter height difference?

It’s definitely possible to reduce a 4 centimeter height difference. But unless you pull out all the stops, it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to completely offset a 4 cm height difference.

Let me explain.

Footwear is the number one tool that you have at your disposal when it comes to reducing your four centimeter height difference.

By wearing shoes with a thick heel, you can boost your stature by a couple of centimeters.

If a 4 cm height difference exists between you and your partner, then, presuming that they’re the taller one, you can ask them to wear shoes with less of a heel or no heel at all.

Add in some posture improvements to straighten your spine—which can bag you another centimeter of height—and you can get pretty close to offsetting that pesky 4 centimeter height difference.

In conclusion: How common is a 4 cm height difference?

A 4 cm height difference is most common between two friends since people of the same gender can easily differ in stature by four centimeters.

Couples with a 4 cm difference in height are also pretty common, especially if it’s the male who’s taller.

Finally, you can have a four centimeter height difference between siblings due to slight genetic variations in stature.

All things considered, though, I wouldn’t say that a 4 cm height difference is overly significant. And if it is a big concern for you, you now know that there are multiple ways to close the height gap.
