Pellor Wrist Roller review: Good for working your forearms?

Pellor Wrist Roller review: Good for working your forearms?

Forearm rollers like the Pellor Wrist Roller are some of the best tools for increasing the size and strength of your forearm flexors. With regular use, you can also improve your performance in any activity that requires the use of your gripping muscles, such as basketball or weightlifting.

So is the Pellor Wrist Roller a good investment?

We tested over 11 different wrist rollers, and we really like the Pellor roller for beginners. But if you’re a serious gym-goer, then you might find the weight capacity a bit limiting.

Pellor Wrist Roller facts and figures

The Pellor Wrist Roller measures 39cm (15.3″) long and, as such, has plenty of grippable space, which is ideal for larger hands and intense workouts. Add in the anti-slip foam roller padding and heavy-duty steel construction, and you quickly begin to understand why this roller provides a comfortable training experience.

Yet, despite the undeniable comfort of the foam padding, some users noted in their reviews that the padding actually began to wear down and even come off in some cases after heavy usage. This didn’t happen with mine despite my aggressive rolling actions, but the mixed feedback is worth considering if you plan on using this roller over the long-term.

On the positive side, you can have your Pellor Wrist Roller up and running in less than 2 minutes. All you need to do is unscrew the small pin, attach your weights, and then put the pin back on. It couldn’t be any easier.

The weight capacity, however, is rather ambiguous. In one place, the seller says that the device can handle 40lbs, and in another, they recommend not exceeding 20lbs!

Which recommendation are we to trust?

Personally, I’d take the higher capacity because multiple users have used 30lbs+ without any issues. Moreover, if you’re a beginner or intermediate lifter, then even 5-10lbs will really set your forearms on fire.

Overall, with the addition of some 1″ or 2″ weight discs (you can use either), the Pellor Wrist Roller is a great budget forearm training device if you want to strengthen your forearms at home without expensive gym machines.

Pros
  • Anti-slip foam handles help you to maintain a firm grip throughout each set
  • Sturdy steel construction can handle 20lbs+ of resistance
  • Compatible with 1″ and 2″ weight discs
  • Takes less than 2 minutes to set up
  • Improves your grip strength and lower arm muscularity with regular use
  • Helps to strengthen your forearms after injuries
Cons
  • Weight capacity may not suffice for advanced lifters
  • A minority of users reported that the grips slipped off

Thanks to its heavy-duty steel construction, the robust yet affordable Pellor Wrist Roller has provided users with intense workouts for years on end. Even if you’re pretty strong and roll the handles very aggressively as I do, you won’t bend this substantial piece of equipment.

However, as noted, some users had issues with the foam-padding slipping off during training. Of course, not everyone experienced this problem (hence the generally positive reviews). But still, if you’re planning to take your lower arm strength to the next level, then there might be more reliable tools for the job. More on that later.

The rope that connects the wrist roller to the loading pin is made from thick nylon. [1] And given this sturdiness, I expected the weight capacity to be a bit higher. But perhaps the company is just being conservative in their estimates so that people don’t push themselves too hard and get injured?

As mentioned, the loading capacity is 20-40lbs, depending on which source you believe. Multiple users have exceeded the lower 20lb capacity without any issues, also noting that they found even 10lbs of resistance heavy enough in many cases.

To attach your weights, you simply unscrew the small screw from the bottom of the loading pin. Then, you slip the pin through the hole in the center of your weight discs. And to finish, you just put the screw back on the end of the pin to keep the weight plates secure. All in all, it takes 1-2 minutes to set up this wrist roller.

Just note that you’ll need to supply your own weights, which is the same with pretty much every wrist roller on the market.

Pellor Wrist Roller effectiveness

If you’ve never used a wrist roller before, then putting even 5-10lbs on the Pellor Forearm Exerciser will seriously challenge your lower arms. While the muscle pump might feel intense during your workouts, the end results will be worth it.

Many people have had success with the Pellor Wrist Roller and similar devices by improving their grip strength, which in turn helped them to lift heavier weights in the gym and get better at their chosen sport.

Also, if you have an injury around your forearms, wrists, or hands, then using a wrist roller like the Pellor Forearm Exerciser can help to rehabilitate your muscles and make them more resistant to future damage. [2]

The best part for someone short on time like me is that you don’t even need to go to the gym to benefit from these devices. In just 5-10 minutes, you can achieve an excellent workout for your lower arms from the comfort of your living room or bedroom.

Additionally, since the rope measures 100cm (39″) long, you really have to work to roll the weights upwards. As a result, your forearms get plenty of time under tension, which means that in the future, they’ll be less likely to fatigue prematurely during your compound lifts due to their improved endurance.

Just make sure to train consistently. It’s no good working out for one week and then quitting. Achieving your desired results can take a few months because your forearms will need time to recover after your initial workouts, which are bound to leave your muscles feeling sore.

Pellor Wrist Roller alternatives

The Pellor Wrist Roller is an excellent choice for beginners and intermediates who want to strengthen their forearms on a budget. It’s comfortable to use and benefits from a sturdy steel construction.

Yet, there are definitely more robust products on the market. Some people just love seeing how far they can push themselves. And for serious grip training, there are no two ways about it; you’re going to need a sturdier set of tools that can handle more poundage.

Should you get the Pellor Wrist Roller?

Overall, if you’re just getting started with strengthening your grip and lower arms, then the Pellor Wrist Roller will be a great addition to your workout routine. The included loading pin offers a high enough weight capacity for both novice and intermediate lifters. So if you want to build muscle but don’t care to look like a bodybuilder, then you can definitely make gains in both size and strength with this device.

Once you open the package, you can start your workout in under 2 minutes because attaching the weights is as simple as unscrewing a small pin. From there, you just rotate the padded handles back and forth until your forearms start to burn. That’s how simple wrist roller training is!
