The average 4th grader height and weight for boys and girls

The average 4th grader height and weight for boys and girls

If you’d like to know the average weight of a 4th grader and, along the same lines, the average height of a 4th grader, then this guide is for you.

Continuing with our grade series, we’ll be using the age at which most children start fourth grade when giving our averages, which is age 9.

What is the average 4th grader height for boys?

A table showing how tall the average 4th grader boy is

How tall is the average 4th grader boy? According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the average 4th grader height for boys is approximately 4 feet 6 inches.

This average is rounded up (from 4ft 5.5in) to the nearest whole inch.

Since the previous grade, the average 4th grade boy will have gotten around 1.5 inches taller and can be expected to gain an additional 2 inches of stature as he enters fifth grade.

There are, of course, different factors that affect the height of a 4th grade boy. For example, if he has a much later birthday than the majority of his peers, then there’s a high chance that he’d be shorter than average.

What is the average 4th grader height for girls?

What is the average height for a 4th grader girl? According to the CDC, the average 4th grader height for girls is almost 4 feet 6 inches.

Fourth grade girls and boys are roughly the same height, with girls being 0.4 inches taller on average when we use the non-rounded values.

But if a girl’s parents are quite short, for example, then she may be a bit smaller than her peers, which in addition to birthdays, is one reason why height can vary so much between children in the same grade.

What is the average 4th grader weight for boys?

What is the average 4th grader weight for boys? According to body mass data, the average weight of a 4th grader boy is 78.1 pounds, which is equal to 35.4 kilograms.

As I’ve noted in previous articles in our grade height and weight series, stature and body mass almost always increase together as a child develops.

For example, a 4th grade boy will have gained approximately 9 lbs since third grade and will gain an additional 10 lbs as he moves into 5th grade.

What is the average 4th grader weight for girls?

What is the average 4th grader weight for girls? The average weight for a 4th grader girl is 76.9 lbs or 34.9 kilograms.

Most 4th grade girls, who will have gained around 7 pounds between grades 3 and 4, will put on an additional 14 pounds between grades 4 and 5, indicating that they’re going through a phase of rapid lean body mass accumulation.

If a 4th grade girl is very active, then she may well naturally weigh less than her peers due to having a leaner physique.

Of course, these averages are still useful to gauge how your 4th grader is growing and developing.

How much should a 4th grader weigh to be healthy?

As noted, active 4th graders will likely have less body fat than their more sedentary peers, meaning that they’ll naturally have a lower body weight.

But this isn’t to say that children whose body mass exceeds the average 4th grader weight are unhealthy. For example, they may have developed more muscle mass through exercise, or they may simply be taller than their classmates.

Unless your child is severely underweight or obese, there’s likely nothing to worry about. Parents should focus on nutrition quality, good sleep, and ensuring that their child is exercising daily.

Fourth graders should aim for 60 minutes of daily activity, performing both aerobic exercise as well as muscle and bone-strengthening activities.

Setting up good exercise habits at a young age can help to prevent chronic diseases as a child becomes an adult, and, in the short term, physical activity can have positive benefits for a child’s cognition.

Why are some 4th graders much taller than others?

Now that you know the average 4th grader height for both boys and girls, why is it that some fourth graders tower above their peers?

Some children simply have the genetics to be tall, which can often become apparent before puberty.

On the other hand, if a child has a much earlier birthday than the majority of students in their class, then they may also naturally be taller because they’ve been developing for a longer period of time.

What age is 4th grade in America?

What age is 4th grade in America? In the USA, 4th graders are between the ages of 9 and 10 years old, depending on their birthday.

Fourth grade corresponds with year 5 in the United Kingdom (in England and Wales).

Conclusion: Who should know the average weight and height of a 4th grader?

Knowing the average 4th grader height and weight is useful for parents as well as for healthcare professionals such as pediatricians.

By knowing how tall the average 4th grader is and finding out how much they weigh, you can check to see if your child is more or less growing at the ideal rate.
